According to the definition in Annex 1 of the Turkish Food Codex Regulation on Food Additives published in the Official Gazette dated 30.06.2013 and numbered 28693:
"Colorants: substances that give or restore color to foods, including natural components of foods and natural resources that are not generally consumed as food and are not generally used as a characteristic component of food, as well as;
 
Preparations formed by the selective extraction of pigments without other nutritive or aromatic components obtained by physical and/or chemical extraction from foodstuffs and other edible natural sources.
