It is a non-ionic water-in-oil emulsifier that is developed from olive content, does not contain natural based PEG.
Useful as co-emulsifier in cosmetic formulations, it functions well in the preparation of anhydrous systems and water-in-oil emulsions.
When mixed with esters and oils, it forms a hard and pourable gel depending on the lipid and polarity.
With recipes containing 30% Sorbitan Olivate and 70% lipid, stable gels that can be easily spread with a dry but softening feel can be produced.
Changing the ratio changes the viscosity.
It is also possible for powders and pigments to be incorporated into gels, making it an excellent structuring agent for color cosmetics.
Adding water to these gels creates water-in-oil emulsions.
Usage Advantages:
It acts as a very effective dispersant for any type of powder used in formulations. It is designed for pigment dispersion and provides multifunctional benefits in addition to superior sensory properties. With its silky and ultra-light feel, it can enhance skincare and makeup formulations. With washout resistance, it can provide "long lasting" activity and lip hydrating activity in lipstick formulations.
Sorbitan Olivate is a functional lipid due to its dual chemical structure, lipophilic part (fatty acids of olives and hydrophilic part (alcoholic group of sorbitan).
Usage Rate:
The recommended amount of use for Sorbitan Olivat,
in emulsions as sole emulsifier: 5 - 10%
as functional lipid: 1-3%
as co-emulsifier: 1 - 2 %
