Carnauba wax is obtained from the leaves, buds and dust layer of the Carnauba (Copernica cerifera) palm tree, which grows in the northeastern states of Brazil, and protects the sword-shaped palm tree leaves against the severe climate of that region. The buds and leaves of the carnauba palm tree are collected between September and March, piled together and dried in the sun.
Carnauba wax is a herbal wax and its main ingredient is myricyl serotate.
It is a herbal wax found on the fibers of the date palm.
The powder obtained mechanically by crushing the leaves in a blender is graded according to its color. Light colored powders are obtained from young leaves. After a few days of drying, the leaves are given to the beaters, which remove the waxy substances and separate the wax powder from the leaves and buds.
It mainly contains myricyl serorate, small amounts of myricyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol and serotic acid.
Carnauba wax, known as the hardest natural wax; It is a brittle, non-sticky, shiny wax with a melting point in the range of 8086°C.

Carnauba wax, identified with the code E903 in the food industry, gives shine and creates a protective layer on dried fruits and citrus fruits.
It is used as a brightening and releasing agent in dragee chewing gum, chocolate and confectionery. It protects the products it is coated with from changes such as aroma and moisture loss.
The most commonly used type is obtained from young leaves and is used in cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. This form; It can be found in flake, micronized, powder or lump form.
The form obtained from normal leaves is; It is used in furniture and automobile polishing agents.
It is used in polishing and making waxed duplicating paper.
Because of its hardness and brittleness, carnauba wax; It is generally used in mixture with other waxes. Carnauba wax; Besides containing mostly serotonic acid and myricil, these acids and alcohols can be found in free form.
Herbal candles; It is found in layers covering various organs of plants and generally melts and mixes with oil during the processing of raw materials into oil. However, carnauba palm is one of the sources processed directly into wax due to its high wax content.
Carnauba wax, which is unsafe to store in places directly exposed to heat, should be stored separately from strong oxidizing agents.
