Carnauba wax is obtained from the powder layer of the Carnauba (Copernica cerifera) palm tree growing in the northeastern states of Brazil, which protects the leaves, buds and sword-shaped palm tree leaves against the severe climate of that region. The buds and leaves of the carnauba palm tree are collected between September and March, piled together and dried in the sun.
Carnauba wax is a herbal wax and its main ingredient is myricyl serotate.
It is a herbal wax found on the fibers of the date palm.
The powder obtained mechanically by beating the leaves in the threshing floor is graded according to its color. Light colored powders are obtained from young leaves. After a few days of drying, the leaves are given to the beaters, where the waxy substances are removed and the wax powder is separated from the leaves and buds.
It contains mainly myricyl serorate, small amounts of myricyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol and serotic acid.
Carnauba wax, known as the hardest natural wax; It is a brittle, non-sticky, luminous wax with a melting point in the range of 8086°C.
