Nectar
Nectar, which is a substance secreted from the glandular organs in the flower in order to attract the attention of bees, is the name given to all the liquids that make up the source of honey in a broad sense. These organs, which secrete nectar in the flower and are called nectarium, are located inside and outside the flower. Inflorescence organs are in the petals and sepals of the flower, on the stamen, on the leaves of the flower cover or in the flower axis; Non-flower nectar secretion organs are on the stem or leaves.
Nectar is usually colorless, transparent, and refractive, as it is secreted from plants.
Depending on the plant species and natural conditions, the sugar rate varies between 5-80%, but this rate is generally between 10-30%. According to the majority of sugars they contain, they are nectars; It is divided into 3 different groups as sucrose superior nectars, balanced nectars containing equal amounts of sucrose, glucose and fructose, and nectars containing superior fructose and glucose. Bees choose according to the ratio of sugars in the nectar and they prefer balanced nectars the most.
Pollen
Pollen, which forms the reproductive unit of flowers and is found in a package on the male organ of the flower, gains importance as a protein source in the nutrition of honey bees due to its high protein content. It is used abundantly both in the feeding of the young and in the feeding of the young worker bees that secrete royal jelly. The protein ratio varies between 7.02% and 33.5%. Rich pollen containing high amount of protein is collected more by honey bees.
