Baird Parker agar is an additive consisting of egg yolk emulsion used as an additive to prepare the basic medium for the detection of Staphylococcus.

It is a stabilized egg yolk emulsion for microbiological use added directly to the nutrient medium for the identification of coagulase positive Staphylococcus strains with their lecitinase activity.

Potassium tellurite has selective activity and allows Staphylococcus to grow in black colonies.

Egg yolk allows detection of microbial lecitinase activity and reduction of tellurite.
