English Name: Borax
Physical State: Powder
Purity Level: 99.9%
Origin Türkiye
The boron element is at the beginning of group 3 of the periodic system. Its atomic number is 5, atomic weight is 10.82, and its melting point is 2190°C.
Boron, the hardest substance after diamond, has a gray-black crystalline or amorphous microcrystalline greenish yellow structure.
Boron is not found free in nature. It is found in the form of salts such as boric acid, borax, colemanite, kernite, or silicates when combined with oxygen.
Areas of use:
Borcam, cement, glass industry, x-ray device rooms are used in boron cement. Rail systems in high-speed trains are coated with boron carbide.
Borax:
Borax is the most important compound of boron. The sodium salt of tetraboric acid is called 'borax'. Borax is found in nature as the mineral tincal, tincalconite. In its pure form, it is in the form of colorless transparent crystals. It loses its water at 400°C.
Borax, which is colorless, has a slightly alkaline reaction when dissolved in water. For this reason, borax is added to some washing powders.
In the crystallization of borax solutions, pentahydrate crystallizes at temperatures above 60°C in hot solution and decahydrate borax at temperatures below. Borax decahydrate can easily lose water, while borax pentahydrate can be better preserved.
