Active bentonite is a special product used for clarification of beverages and removal of positively charged albuminous substances from fruit juice and vinegar.
The active ingredient of the product is the mineral montmorrilonite, which has a special crystal structure and a high degree of swelling. Montmorrilonite is an aluminum silicate in laminar structure containing crystalline water and varying amounts of positive charge. Due to this specific structure, it has a large amount of negative charge and its ability to adsorb positively charged substances such as protein is extremely strong.
It has different swelling properties depending on the environment (water, fruit juice) surrounding the silicate lamination of bentonite.
Since this mineral also has a small amount of positive charge carriers, it can also adsorb tannins and other negatively charged colloidal substances.
Specific Advantages of Using Active Bentonite:

Clarification Process:
Activated bentonite can be easily inflated or added directly to the beverage. However, inflating before adding to the beverage provides more effective results. The bentonite to be used for swelling is mixed vigorously in 10-15 layers of liquid, preferably using a mixer. The mixing process is terminated when a homogeneous suspension is obtained. If the inflation process is done by leaving it to time and mixing it from time to time, even more positive results are obtained.
For the sake of economy, we recommend using water instead of beverage for inflation. Because the liquid used in inflation cannot be recovered later.
The positive result to be obtained in bentonite clarification depends on ensuring bentonite-beverage contact by mixing thoroughly. The beverage to be clarified should be mixed thoroughly before adding bentonite. Then the newly prepared bentonite suspension is added slowly. After that, mixing should be continued for 15 to 30 minutes. For better results, it should be mixed again after a few hours.
Clarification after rinsing;
Active bentonite shows its effect quickly and effectively. Therefore, a separation can be made shortly after the clarification process. However, the most economical clarification can be done by filtering the self-clarified fraction while waiting for the bentonite to settle. Thus, the sediment volume to be formed is small and this residue can be processed in rotary vacuum filters or framed (plate) sediment filters.
Since Active Bentonite does not contain substances that cause environmental pollution, it can be easily removed with other wastes.
