Potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3) (also known as potassium hydrogen carbonate or potassium acid carbonate) is a colorless, odorless, basic, salty substance.
Potassium bicarbonate is water soluble. However, it is not soluble in alcohol. It is usually found in crystal structure or powder form. It is obtained by chemical reaction of potassium carbonate with water and carbon dioxide. Natural potassium bicarbonate is known as the calcinite mineral and is found in small amounts in nature.
There is no proven theory that potassium bicarbonate has a carcinogenic effect and it does not leave a toxic effect on the environment.
It is used in powder form in fire extinguishing agents. It is used as a buffering agent in many medical drugs. It can be used as a pH regulator in waste treatment processes and air filtration systems in some industrial facilities. It can be used as a pH regulator in some water treatment systems.
